Activities executed by SNCTP in 2006 (IAC, WK, NCA, SCS and WK partners):

Besides ICCO support, other partners, contributed in the campaign against FGM/HTPs and HRs related issues. Target groups were youths, IDPs, women household and religious leaders/Muslims & Christians as reflected below:

NCA:

  • (3) TOT workshops on FGM/HTPs/AIDS for religious leaders, chiefs, midwives and youths in Mayo farms IDPs Camp were organized, (79) participants attended i.e. 5% male & 95% female.
  • A Special Training workshop on GBV was organized.  (43) young girls attended who were students from basic & secondary schools in  Mayo farms IDPs Camp and its surroundings.
  • (263) Sensitization sessions of lactating and pregnant mothers/women on FGM negative consequences, religious views and HIV/AIDS were organized outreached (5092) who were (2471) lactating mothers & (2621) pregnant mothers
  • A total of (192) home visits were carried by the midwives on daily routine bases during social gatherings, naming babies and others.
  • (312) lessons were covered and (7329) Pupils benefited in (8) basic schools in Mayo Farms IDPs camp and its surroundings. FGM/HTPs, HIV/AIDS and rights related issues were the topics taught to the pupils as part of FGM/HTPs/HIV/AIDS integrated program in basic schools of Mayo Farms. In addition to (2) Sessions organized at SIDO kindergarten by the teacher who was trained in the TOT workshop. (90) Mothers of the children attended. The sessions covered FGM/HIV/AIDS and Gender related issues, film show and distribution of educational accompanied the sessions.
  • (30) Community health education sensitization sessions were conducted in different blocks of Mayo farms and its surrounding outreached were (1806) i.e. (349) children, (552) male & (905) female who were households, religious leaders, Chiefs, youths and pupils. Issues on Religious views on FGM, FGM negative consequences, child marriage complications, SGBV, women and child rights and HIV/AIDS were the topics discussed.
  • (100) T-shirts on FGM were printed which was widely distributed to the project beneficiaries and NGOs network members. The pictures drew on the shirt reflects community solidarity in the fight against FGM.
  • (4000) copies of booklets on Islamic religious views to FGM produced by Dr. Ahmed Selim Alawa were printed. Copies distributed to partners and project beneficiaries in uran & rural areas.
  • (8) Meetings were organized as the preliminary preparations for the current phase, the first was done at Bin Khatab health centre attended by (51) midwives who came from various health centres of Mayo Farms. The second  & third meetings were held in ECS basic school attended by (10) teachers and the fourth and fifth meeting were organized at Yormuk attended by (20) young women who are attending literacy program in the area and the last three meetings were held at SIDO health centre attended by community leaders. Its outcomes are as follows: Midwives were divided into groups, each group consists of (5) with a leader who is responsible for render report of what has been achieved during the month to SNCTP program officer, in all (30) group were formed i.e. (5) group per each centre. These groups were assigned responsibilities of carry debates at house hold levels during Ramadan fasting.
  • The meeting agreed that each group should produce an assorted lists of those people who are still pro-FGM practice so that strategies of how to approach them is formulated in the plan of 2007.
  • The meeting agreed that teachers will start giving sessions on the issues right after Idd Ramadan to the already existed literacy classes in Yormuk area.
  • The meeting also agreed that midwives must participate in disseminate FGM/ HTPs/HIV/AIDS/ in community conversation sessions in some of the schools that the campaign has never yet reached them. 

IAC in collaboration with FORWARD London.

  • (5) TOT workshop on Moolaade film a GBV tool that advance women to advocate for their rights were organized in Khartoum/ Mayo farms IDPs and Sinnar state. (221) beneficiaries who were youths, women, teachers, health personnel, network members, NGOs and midwives attended i.e. 56 male & 165 female.
  • (4) Awareness raising discussions sessions on Moolaade film were conducted, (206) participants attended who were the UN volunteers, social workers, teachers, women & youths i.e. (26) male & (180) female.
  •  A Lobby Sessions for HRs Advisory council was organized, where (42) participants attended i.e. 9 male & 33 female.
  • 16 Days of Violence Against Women was at El Gezira state which was attended by minter and the advisory women & children protection officers attended, (232) people attended i.e. (63) male & (169) female.

SCS:

  • A (5) days CCA Training Workshop was organized at Silem village river Nile state. Attended by (20) participants who were youths, teachers, house wives and religious leaders. I.e. 60% women, 40% men.
  • A (2) days intensive  TOT workshop on FGM/HTPs /HIV/AIDS/HRs  was conducted at Silem village targeted (37) beneficiaries who are teachers, households and religious leaders, i.e. ratio of male to female 9: 26.
  • A one day orientation workshop for health workers on child protection & FGM negative consequences were organized in Bisly hospital outreached (20) in which 90% are women who are health promoters. And 10% are (males) medical assistants.
  • (36) Community Conversation & debates  sessions on FGM / HTPs /HRs related issues and HIV / AIDS were organized in both Silem & Bisly villages in River Nile state and the total outreached (900) comprising grand mother, midwives, youths, farmers, religious leaders, households and teachers i.e. (120) male, (638) female & (142) children age (10 – 16).
  • (12) Awareness sessions on FGM elimination campaign & HRs related     issues at basic school in Bisly village were conducted in Imam El-Bokhari co-education Primary School in Bisly village in which (156) pupils were reached. Males made up 45% and females 55 %. The sessions were given only to upper classes.
  • (31) Sessions were disseminated through BC as shown in the above table, the sessions were implemented by specialists who were used to cooperate with SNCTP, and they are Government officials, Staff members and NGOs. Each session took (15) minutes which include telephone inquires and questions from the public that follows by immediate responds from the presenters of the program.
  • (2) Open celebration during 16 Days of Violence Against Women were organized in villages of Bisly and Silem villages in River Nile state. The estimation of (1100) people attended who were Government officials, INGOs, Religious Leaders, Popular Committee members, Teachers, Housewives, Youths of both sex male and female including school pupils and children. The events also accompanied by drama “Stop Violence Against Women”. The drama was composed by the group of pupils/students who are from project targeted school in coordination with teacher and trainees of the TOT. The drama reflected the really fact on the ground where women suffered from the agony of men, it made some of the attendance to shed tears. Songs about women work over loaded in all aspects were also part in the event sessions.
  • (4000) copies of booklet on FGM negative consequences were printed. It was widely distributed to branch offices during activities implementation detailed see table (4).

Woman Kind:

  • A (3) days TOT workshop on FGM/HTPs/HIV/AIDS was conducted in Nuba Mountains Kadugli town. (28) Participants who were decision makers, women officials and social workers. i.e (20) male & (8) female.            
  • (2) Days debates sessions on FGM for pregnant mothers (2) Days debates sessions on FGM for pregnant mothers (90).
  • (2) Sensitization campaign sessions on stop FGM/C were organized in Doroshap and Abu Halima rural villages in Bahri locality Khartoum State. (140) people benefited who are the house holds (men & women), youths and children under 18 years old. i.e. (13) male, (104) female & (23) children.
  • (10) Home visits discussion sessions targeted (100) homes in project targeted villages in Nuba Mountains were conducted and the total outreached (280) households.

SNCTP building construction.

WK assisted by donating (£3000) for the construction of first floor of the office through East Africa Four literacies programme. Through this assistance the first floor was completed, thus facilitated SNCTP preparations to move from the old (rent) office to the new building at the end of the Dec2006, the second floor is not yet finished awaiting construction.

ICCO HIV/AIDS program;

§        (4) Sensitization workshops on HIV/AIDS were organized in (4) states (Khartoum, White Nile, Kassala & Gadarief) attended by (78) religious leaders i.e. 67% male & 33% female.

§         A (10) days HIV/AIDS counseling training workshop was organized in Khartoum attended by (20) field workers from Kassala, Gadarief, White Nile & Khartoum. i.e. (5) person per each state.

§         A (3) days Training workshop on HIV/AIDS stigma reduction at work place was organized in Khartoum state attended by (20) SNCTP staff at HQ & branch offices

§         (4) Focus health education sessions on HIV/AIDS were conducted in four state (88) young girls age (15 – 20) who are tea – sellers attended. Each session took one full day from morning to evening hours.

§         (12) PLWHAS were identified and supported with food items and school fees for those who are both HIV/AIDS reactive parents and family members besides the drugs (Acyclovir tabs 200 mg, Diclofenac sodium tabs 100 mg and Neurovubium tabs) for the treatment of opportunist diseases. These medicines are very expensive which the patients are not getting access to.

§         (1000) copies of booklet on HIV/AIDS in relation to HTPs printed and distributed to literate community in (15) states. The following equipments were purchased for facilitation of the mission:

*      (2) TV and (2) videos for Kassala and White Nile offices.

*      (2) Portable generators for Gadarief and Kassala office.

*      A photocopier machine was purchased, its impact is seen in the provision of hand outs for the four state workshops training document.
