Regional conference on FGM religious & legal aspects
SNCTP in collaboration with Womankind worldwide
and National Council for Child welfare organized the on 29th -30th
march 2005. The participants represented east Africa region, who are the
partners .Estimated (150) religious scholars both Muslim and Christian,
government officials, NNGOs, INGOs.
·
All forms of FGM should
be criminalized by law.
·
Severe punishments should
be meted out to offenders who perform FGM.
·
Existing legislation,
like the Sudan civil code law (1991), should be revitalized and harmonized with
existing international protocols e.g. the Maputo protocol.
FGM should be
included in school curricula and where it is already incorporated it should be
given greater space. |
